Like we said already, autumn is almost here. These are the best September 2018 events in Madeira to consider if you are planning for an early fall holiday on the Island of the Eternal Spring; after all, this is a place that boasts with spring and warmth, summer and fun at all times, so if there is to be an eternal spring in the Portuguese world, why not celebrate it this September?

So we thought we would continue that list of places to go to on a Madeira tour and especially events to attend during the first month of autumn.

Autumn debuts with the Festival of Senhor Bom Jesus in the town of Ponta Delgada. The event is bound to take a couple of days (September 1 and 2 2018) and impress the crowds of locals and visitors with a traditional party consisting of lots of great local food and drinks, local products and “made in Portugal” entertainment.

What is greatest about Madeira Island is the authentic feeling of a nice local village. And this archipelago definitely has a lot of authentic places and amazing little towns and villages for you to take refuge in and enjoy. The lovely ponta do Pargo hosts an annual event of its own: the Apple Festival (September 15-16). The apple harvest comes to life in the most colorful manner with exhibitions, street parades, cider tasting and a lot of fun!

And of course, the Island of Madeira is a place to practice sports, particularly water sports. September 21st is the day Madeira Regional Canoeing Association and the Portuguese Canoeing Federation have chosen to celebrate the Madeira Surfski LifeSaving, an exciting and meaningful sports event.

September ends on a very “touristy” note, with the World Tourism Day, an annual event meant to highlight the importance of tourism in the local industry. This year’s edition has been scheduled for September 27th.
