August, the most exciting month in Madeira

It’s just a few days away, so today we are going to talk about August, the most exciting month in Madeira. Locals and hundreds of international tourists will enjoy the warmth and the breeze of the Ocean on the Island of smiles and happiness.

There are lots of exciting events happening in Madeira every month, which we have been faithfully presenting along the year in our articles. Summer is particularly busy and eventful, especially August, the time when Madeira celebrates its beautiful Funchal capital city and an exciting rally – among many others.

This July 2015 ends in force: 30th of July is the day the Rali Vinho da Madeira starts with lots of noise and excitement. This rally celebrating Madeira wine is due to last until August 9th and is expected to welcome a large audience.

The Gastronomic Week celebrated in Machico is going to synchronize with the Rally, so you can take a day or more to stop by this gorgeous traditional village and attend cocktails, sports tournaments and taste the food and drink of the region. This festival has reached its 28th edition.

Madeira loves to celebrate its roots and its Atlantic legacy. One landmark on the calendar is the Festival Raizes do Atlantico scheduled to take place in Funchal city between August 16th and 18th. Hosted by the Municipal Garden in Funchal, this is one of the oldest modern music festivals in Portugal. It attracts both national and international artists and guests. You are all invited.

Bananas are one of the most popular local products, so Madeira celebrates this tasty fruit at Madalena do Mar between August 17th and 19th.

Finally, on August 21st you are all invited to celebrate Funchal Day. The current capital city of Madeira Island has been a Portuguese city since 1508 and has been celebrated as such ever since.
