Madeira February 2015 Events

Maybe February is the kid month of the year, shortest and apparently greyest; but don’t underestimate it, specially if you find yourself in Madeira! Let’s take a moment to discover the best Madeira February 2015 Events and the easiest way to join in the fun.

February makes an energetic debut this year, with the Festa dos Compadres in Santana. Scheduled between the 5th and 12th of February 2015, this is an original festivity, with fun gigantic figures being paraded around town, music, dancing and traditional island food.

Like on all islands, Madeira is a happy, exotic place to party. This calls for a Madeira Carnival, held between 11th and 18th of February. If you wish to attend, you will be swiftly lured by the merry rhythms, the friendly people dressed in crazy costumes, by the dance and the excitement. The theme of this year is Zodiac Signs and the Main Parade is due to take place on February 14th, with an additional one organized on the 17th.

An international and modern celebration, Valentine’s Day on Feb 14th coincides with the Carnival this year. But whether you want to join the party or spend time alone with your loved one, the Island of Madeira is a romantic place to be anytime.

And if at heart you are an ethnographer, you will definitely enjoy the Festival of Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicrafts organized by the Madeira Wine Institute in Funchal on Rua 5 de Outubro between the 21st and the 23rd of February. You will get the chance to taste the local specialties and admire the arts and crafts that make the Island what it is.

As for getting around, we recommend hiring a car from Funchal Airport if you want to have absolute liberty or, if you are less familiar with the layout of the Island, booking an airport transfer in Madeira.
