Best Madeira events in November 2014

It seems like winter has decided to veer away from Madeira this year, so far at least. Weather forecasts seem to indicate that for November, temperatures of up to 21 degrees Celsius are to be expected, so an impromptu visit to the Island of the Eternal Spring is tempting, isn’t it? For the record, let’s take a quick look into the Best Madeira events in November 2014!

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire… almost time to sing these Christmas carols, but we’ve still got a couple of months to go. What is closer is the Madeiran Chestnut Festival (or, as the locals call it in Portuguese, Festa da Castanha). Between the 1st and the 2nd of November, you are invited to sample the tastiest chestnuts at the annual popular festival that has it all: traditional cuisine and beverages, delicious pastries, cakes and tons of fun for everybody under the sun! The 1st of November in Portugal is the All Saints’ Day (Dia de Todos os Santos), a national version of Halloween entwined with Mediterranean idiosyncrasies This event is particularly loved by children, who go from door to door caroling and sharing bread, fruits and chestnuts with the others.

A week later, on November 10th, another “installment” of the Chestnuts Festival is due to take place in Madeira: the Festa da Castanha da Serra at Serra do Campanario Ribeira Brava.

So far, November has been all about Halloween and chestnuts, but the film fans should also know this month is when the Funchal International Film Festival takes place. Organized annually at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre, the festival aims at promoting independent films and Madeira Island.

Participating in any of these events will be a delightful event, so we encourage you to travel throughout the Island of Madeira and warmly remind you that, whenever you need an airport transfer, you can count on us!
